Where is Buenos Aires located?

The City of Buenos Aires is the capital city of the Republic of Argentina. Located in the Southern hemisphere of the American continent, the population in Buenos Aires amounts to over 15 million people, which makes it one of the ten most populated urban centers in the world. The Río de la Plata and the Riachuelo are the natural limits of the City to the East and to the South. The rest of the metropolitan perimeter is limited by the General Paz Avenue, which flanks the city from North to West. This avenue links in a rapid manner the city with the suburbs of Buenos Aires (el Gran Buenos Aires). Buenos Aires is connected to the rest of the Provinces and with other countries by an ample transport net, which comprises a port where ferries and cruises moor; two airports; railways; highways; national routes and a passengers transportation bus station only one kilometer away from the center of the city.

Climate

Annual average temperatures of 18°C makes extreme hot and cold days scarce, which allows walking within the city at any season. In winter, the coldest month is July, with average temperatures of 3°C and 8°C but frosts are strange to see. It is necessary to go out with a wool coat, a jacket, or an overcoat and scarf. In summer, heat is humid, and average temperatures stand around 28°C. At night, temperature decreases slightly, people dress in light and cool clothes without need of wearing coats. The average annual rain fall is 1,146 mm. It rains most frequently in the fall and in spring. In the warmer months, rains are brief, or drizzles, and do not prevent activities from taking place and allow going out with light clothes and umbrella or raincoat.

Accommodations

Buenos Aires ´capacity to provide accommodation can be quantified in over 450 establishments, 25,500 rooms and 52,000 beds. The majority of hotels of all categories, concentrates downtown, as the most visited tourist sites, and the financial and business center is located downtown. However, Buenos Aires also has hotels and accommodations all around, and it is easy to access these places using the existing wide transportation net.

Transportation

Tourists who arrive from all Provinces land at Jorge Newbery airport, located by the riverside path (Costanera) of the City, five minutes away from downtown. Jorge Newbery airport receives and sees off planes from the Provinces and bordering countries. Visitors from other parts of the world land at the International Airport of Ezeiza, fifteen minutes away from downtown (by highway). It is very easy to travel inside Buenos Aires. Its five subway lines (referred to as “subtes”) converge at the most offices-densely area of downtown (microcentro) within the City. Taxis are another good option to move around the City of Buenos Aires. The number of taxis in the streets is of approximately 32 thousand vehicles. Taxis´ rates are comprised by an initial price and an additional price according to the distance and time driven. A quick and inexpensive option is the bus, one of the most used means of transportation to move around the Capital City and the Suburbs of the City of Buenos Aires (Gran Buenos Aires), with more than a hundred lines crossing the whole City and connecting it with all localities of the Suburbs of the City of Buenos Aires (Gran Buenos Aires). Another option, especially for people who want more independence and comfort during their stay in the City is car renting.
